In an age of ethical decay at organizations of every type, accountability is becoming a big issue. Companies are needing to education their employees and executives regarding acceptable practices. We will discuss leadership, commitment, workplace conduct, individual ethical behavior, salesmanship, teamwork and more.

Computer Applications

Students will learn to use Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access. This course will also include use of the internet, email, troubleshooting tips and computer health and safety. Students will be encouraged to continue improving their personal keyboarding speed goal. Prerequisite: Computer Literacy

Computer Literacy

Students will learn the touch method of typing using self-paced software. In addition, students will become knowledgeable in MS Word as well as learning computer basics, troubleshooting, internet and e-mail.Speed goal is 20 wpm for general students and 30 wpm for clerical students.

Customer Service

This course will provide students with the skills needed to increase customer loyalty, increase customer service effectiveness and decrease stress in the business setting. We will cover customer contact skills and management skills. We will discuss proven strategies to keep customers happy, develop professionalism and promote internal customer service.

Employment Communications
Lisa Blanchette
This course will cover verbal, non-verbal, and written communications in the workplace. How to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, & those reporting to you. Employment Communications will be included (Resumes, Cover Letters, Requests for References). Mock Interviews will be done in class. A Public Speaking segment is also included as well as a segment on Self Assessed Portfolio preparation and use.

Medical Terminology
Shirley Ross
Learn medical terminology with the Dean Vaughn Learning System, a unique training system using cleverly designed videos with word association that facilitate learning the language of medicine and medical abbreviations. Students will also need to supply a copy (new or used) of the Taber Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary, available on eBay or Amazon.com for as little as $10.

Office Simulation

Provides a mock-office situation to apply skills learned in other OSCP courses. This training is designed to help students build confidence in applying their clerical abilities to real-life situations.

Interested in getting your GED?

The GED diploma is earned by passing a five (5) part test that includes:  Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science.

•You need to be 18 or older to take the tests, there are a few exceptions to this rule that allow people to test at 17.  Please call for more info.

•The GED process starts with a required three day orientation that includes GED pre-testing, and the CASAS test If your pre-test scores are not high enough, we offer classes to help you raise your scores.   The classes are free, but books may cost between $25-$35.  We pre-test five times a year.  Plan to attend all three days of pre-testing. Childcare is only available at morning testing.

•You may official test if your pre-test scores show that you are ready.  Official testing follows pre-testing. You MUST bring an official picture i.d. to test. 

 

Interested in getting your High School Diploma?
 
SCAE offers classes in the mornings, afternoons and evenings to help you reach your goal.   Students can attend anywhere from 1-5 classes a session to complete graduation requirements. Classes meet 2 days a week.   Please call 490-5145 to set up an intake meeting and to schedule math and reading assessments.
 
Graduation requirements for Adult Education Students
Successful completion of the following core requirements:
Four (4) credits in English
Two (2) credits in Mathematics
Two (2) credits in Science
Two (2) credits in Social Studies
      (including one (1) in U.S. History/Modern History
One (1) credit in Fine Arts
One (1) credit in Computer Literacy
One (1) credit in Computer Application (i.e. Excel, Office Pro, Claris Works, etc.)            
One-half (1/2) credit in Health
•One (1) Community Service Project per school year, up to a maximum of four (4) - a non-course requirement as defined in the SHS student handbook.
•And, a tenth grade or higher grade equivalent on the CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System) test in Reading and Math.
Please Note:
1.  Students who would have graduated prior to 1998 will need a minimum of twenty (20) credits.
2.  Students who would have graduated in 1998 will need a minimum of twenty-two (22) credits.
3.  Students who would have graduated in 1999 or later will need a minimum of twenty-four (24) credits.
