Beginning Piano I & II

If you’ve always wanted to play the piano, here’s your chance! Ten weeks of classroom instruction and hands-on experience using the high school’s keyboard system will teach you to read music and play the piano using both hands. This course is geared towards people with little or no piano experience. Come join the class and learn to play those songs you’ve been wanting to play for years! Open to previous students who wish to advance.

Dance into Fall! Everything old is new again - nowhere more so than with ballroom dancing! Learn to dance with your own “star” in one or all of our individual dance sessions. We’ll spend the first 90 minutes with instruction, take a break and then practice for another half hour! Course fee listed is per couple! Specify session when registering. Register for all four and save $10!

Beginning Guitar

Looking for a way to unwind in the evening? Get that guitar out of the closet, dust it off and join us – no prior experience required. Learn to tune your guitar, read guitar tab and standard musical notation, and master your first chords and riffs. “Smoke on the Water” is just the beginning! Students must have their own instrument, strap, and picks. Electronic tuner recommended. Bring a copy of Beginning Guitar Superbook by Hal Leonard (ISBN 978-0793550302) which is available on Amazon.com for $.75 to $20) to the first class. Specify session when registering. No class 10/13 & 11/24.

Gershwin: His Era & His Music

Our canvas is the 1920’s and the shows of Broadway, the norm and the unusual. What was popular? What was serious? How did these two themes merge in Gershwin’s music? We’ll explore Rhapsody in Blue and Porgy and Bess. No class 10/13.

Advanced Beginning Guitar

Have you tasted enough guitar playing to whet your appetite? Got some basic technique and chords down? Hungry for more? Join guitar class at the advanced beginner level to add to your knowledge of chords, play songs from lead sheets, expand your riff repertoire, and play with greater confidence. This brilliant team had a real knack for integrating drama and dance into their shows. Over the span of the course we’ll examine several including Carousel, The King & I, State Fair and The Sound of Music. No class 11/24.

Line Dancing Beginner 1

Bring a pal and prepare to have a blast! Don’t be nervous - everyone feels as if they have two left feet at first. In no time at all you will be joining “Pepper’s Steppers” and dancing popular line dances like the Electric Slide and Boot Scootin’ Boogie.

Jammin’ with Jackie

Explore a new aspect of Franco American culture! Jackie Nolette is the premiere spoon percussionist for the Seaglass Chorale and thoroughly enjoys sharing her love of “playing spoons” with others. Bring a pair of metal spoons (soup or serving size is great) and prepare to laugh, relax and learn a new skill! Specifiy session when registering.  Course fee: $9; $14 Nonresident. Room: SHS Band
